The general management skill of communicating (discussed in Section 2.4.2) is related to, but not the same as, project communications management.
Project Communications Management includes the processes required to ensure timely and appropriate generation, collection, dissemination, storage, and ultimate disposition of project information.
You should also ensure it’s relevant – meaning, does the person need to know about what you’re telling them? I find that many project managers I meet struggle with communication.
Then, write down the objectives for the communication plan. Make sure to keep these things in mind for the current communication plan and make adjustments accordingly. What’s the priority of the project in the general project portfolio? Since different audiences will need different information, this step is crucial.
Think about the general strategy that you are going to take with the communication. Do you need to keep stakeholders like investors informed? If you haven’t done a stakeholder analysis yet, do it now.
Frankly, it was bad, and it was something that needed fixing right away.
