The last time you had a first date, you wore jackets with shoulder pads and permed your hair.According to a recent article on Match.com, single boomers over fifty years old are enjoying the benefits of their new status.Seventy-five percent of women and 81 percent of men say that they are experiencing dating success.In fact, considering all the things that influence our emotional world, feelings can’t always be trusted.Letting “chemistry” and pure emotion be your guide to relationships is asking for trouble.Being open to meeting a potential mate in church makes perfect sense.Using church as a shield because you don't want to put yourself out there and be vulnerable, can and will likely work against you.Now that I work in a young adult ministry with a few thousand singles, I see the same dating mistakes happening over and over again. So, in no particular order, here are nine of the most common dating mistakes I’ve seen: Either you’re heading for marriage, or you’re heading for a break-up.So if marriage isn’t your goal, or isn’t even an option, you’re basically guaranteeing the relationship will fail. I’m not saying you shouldn’t have feelings for the person you’re dating, but it becomes a problem when they blind you to the facts.There are so many mistakes to be made when it comes to dating and relationships.And often, we learn, grow and heal from those mistakes.
